Our Story

Tapestry Acres is a multi-generational family farm located on 110 acres of beautiful, fertile land in Tenneessee's Upper Cumberland Valley. We aim to be a safe haven for a whole host of heritage breeds, which are the breeds that predate factory farming – the same ones raised by our ancestors centuries ago. At Tapestry Acres these include our Highland cows, Alpacas, Kune Kune & Berkshire pigs, Nigerian Dwarf goats, and chickens.

Since we first opened our barn doors in 2023, our mission has remained the same: To serve as a joyful and fun sanctuary for all of our heritage breed farm animals and the guests who come to visit them.

We do so by offering daily farm walks year-round. Whether in or out of season, guests can come to Tapestry Acres, explore our grounds, and pay a visit to each of our pasture-raised animals.

We also specialize in weddings and private events, including corporate parties, birthdays, and showers, year-round. Our passionate hospitality team curates a handful of gorgeous, rustic farm weddings each summer and fall. And we take reservations for private parties any time of year.

We are open to the public during our “in-season,” which extends from Memorial Day to Labor Day. And around the holidays, as well as other select times of year, we host special events that are ticketed and open to the public.

About our founders

Tapestry Acres was founded by restaurateurs Dale and Tari Maxfield. After spending years in hospitality, living between California and Minnesota, and undertaking countless entrepreneurial endeavors, Dale decided he wanted to get back to basics. So they launched pop-up events on site in Minnesota in 2006, starting with just a few alpacas and horses.  And it was so popular that they decided to completely change course with their original plan. They bought some land in the country on which he could build a house and raise animals and crops. But they quickly realized that their friends, family, and neighbors had an enormous interest in coming to see his land, check out the animals, and have a few beers while they were at it.  And since then, he’s turned Tapestry Acres into a full-service hospitality brand and operating gentleman’s farm.
